The semifinal round of the dueling club is fast approaching. This round of the duel has been such a success that we have had many more rounds that the previous dueling club. This is fantastic but it has pushed our final two rounds to the end (or perhaps slightly past the end) of the swap.
We are currently awaiting the resolution of one final hat duel before continuing to the semifinal round. Fleur Dolohov and Elladora Madley’s owls have started their international journeys, but have yet to arrive at their final destinations. However, in anticipation of the semifinal round (and to start the semifinal round as soon as possible), I am posting the specifications this evening.
Specifications
Since we’ve reached the end of our crochet arm of the bracket, please note that both brackets (hat and sock) are now 100% knitting.
Hat Bracket (Knitting)
The knit hat will require a skein (around 200 yards) of worsted weight yarn. You will also be using US 7 (4.5mm – DPNs and 16” circular recommended) and US 5 (3.75 mm – 16” circular recommended) knitting needles. Tools include a cable needle and yarn needle (for tucking in the ends). Some of the notions used include a stitch marker, yarn needle and safety pin. The gauge is listed as 21 stitches and 24 rows is 4” in stockinette stitch on the US 7 needles.
Sock Bracket (Knitting)
The sock knitters will require approximately 450 yards of fingering weight sock yarn. You will also be using US 1 (2.25 mm) double pointed needles (or size needed for gauge – set of five needles) and or a US 1 (2.25 mm) circular needle, if you prefer magic loop. You will also need a yarn needle and stitch markers. The recommended gauge is 8 stitches per inch.
Once again, you will have to contact your partner to get their address, sizing information and color preferences.
Release Date Notes
The pattern release will either be THIS Friday (November 14th) at 3 PM CST but ONLY IF the duel between hat knitters Elladora Madley and Fleur Dolohov is resolved or at a later date (TBA), if the duel is not resolved before the weekend’s quidditch match. A clear decision on the semifinal start time will be made before the end of the day tomorrow (Thursday, November 13th) and will be posted on both the ravelry forum and the HSKS6 blog.
